The route starts in Eagle River and ends in Prairie du Chien. Route profile - see below.
The Wisconsin River drops 1,050 feet in elevation from the start to the finish, but there are some ups and downs along the way. The prevailing wind is from the southwest, which often means headwinds. The terrain in the north is slightly rolling. A few larger hills are encountered in the Merrill-Wausau area. From there, the ride flattens out in the central sands area. A few substantial hills will challenge you the last two days as you head to the Mississippi River.
